Blood Pressure

Blood pressure is the force exerted by circulating blood against the walls of blood vessels, measured in millimeters of mercury (mmHg).

What is Blood Pressure?

Blood pressure is a vital sign indicating the force of blood as it moves through the arteries. It's
measured with two numbers: systolic pressure (the pressure when the heart beats) and diastolic
pressure (the pressure when the heart rests between beats). A typical blood pressure reading is
around 120/80 mmHg.

High blood pressure (hypertension) occurs when the force against the artery walls is too high,
leading to serious health issues like heart disease, stroke, and kidney failure. Conversely, low
blood pressure (hypotension) can cause dizziness, fainting, and, in severe cases, shock.

Regularly monitoring blood pressure is crucial for early detection of potential health problems.
Maintaining healthy blood pressure often involves lifestyle changes like a balanced diet, regular
exercise, and effective stress management.
